Kim's Taekwon-do School Notes

2012 Idaho Championship Tournament, March 17
All students are encouraged to attend the 2012 Kim's Taekwon-do Idaho Championship Tournament in Boise, Idaho on Saturday March 17th. This is the largest and most diverse tournament of the year so all students, regardlessof age or rank, are encouraged to participate.

Tournaments are a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Students compete against other students of similar age and rank as themselves. For example, a 9 year-old yellow-belt student would compete in the pee-wee yellow-belt division against other 7 to 9 year-old yellow-belts. It is always fun to spend a day with hundreds of other people who are all enjoying the practice of the same art. Although we all like to do well, the emphasis in our tournaments is on learning and improving. Towards that end, Grandmaster Kim requires all black-belt candidates to have participated in at least three tournaments and the same applies for each new level of black-belt. Our tournaments take place in a safe and positive environment.

Logistically, tournament is all day on Saturday, so most students arrive Friday afternoon or evening. If parents are not going, we may be able to find chaperones for students over 13 years-old. For those family members not competing, Boise is a nice place to visit.

We have reserved rooms at the Boise Hampton Inn and Suites for Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th for a group rate of $85 per night. The rooms have two queen beds and this rate also includes an expanded hot continental breakfast and use of their large pool. To reserve one of these rooms please call 1-208-323-2500 before March 1st and ask for rooms under the group booking of Kim’s Taekwon-do School. For those of you that want to go down earlier, they may honor this rate as well. Prior to tournament, we will provide maps showing the location of this hotel and the tournament.

If you have any questions about tournament please don’t hesitate to ask. The answer to the most often asked question is students’ brown-stripe and up will compete in breaking and boards must be 1" x 12" pine cut into 8 1/2 inch lengths. We recommend getting extras for practice prior to tournament.

We’d like to get an idea of how many people will be going, so please let us know at your earliest convenience by putting your name on the sign-up sheet at the Bozeman studio.

Next Promotion Test will be Thursday, February 23
